About Shimla
Shimla is a town stacked on a ridge. Almost nothing is flat, the main bazaar is closed to traffic, and a distance that looks tiny on a map can mean a long climb on foot.
That geography is exactly why getting your transport right matters here. Where a car can actually reach, where it has to drop you, and how long a stretch really takes are all local knowledge — not map estimates.
Getting around Shimla
- Vehicles cannot enter the Mall Road and Ridge area, so plan drops at the nearest permitted point.
- Lift and Cart Road are the usual arrival points for the town centre.
- Short hops between Sanjauli, Chhota Shimla and the bus stand are quicker by cab than on foot with luggage.
- Winter snow can change access to Kufri and higher stretches at short notice.
