About Dharamshala
Dharamshala is really two towns. Lower Dharamshala handles the offices and the bus stand; McLeodganj, a steep climb above, holds the monasteries, cafés and most visitors.
The Dhauladhar range rises almost vertically behind McLeodganj, which is why the weather here can turn within an hour.
Getting around Dharamshala
- The road between lower Dharamshala and McLeodganj is steep and narrow — a cab is the practical option with bags.
- Bhagsu, Dharamkot and Naddi are short trips from McLeodganj.
- Kangra airport and Pathankot are the usual outside connections.
