About Manali
Manali is the gateway to the high country. North of it the road climbs to Solang, the Atal Tunnel and eventually Lahaul and Spiti.
Old Manali, Mall Road and Vashisht are close together but very different in character, and the road between them can crawl in season.
Getting around Manali
- Mall Road area gets heavily congested in peak season — build extra time into any transfer.
- Old Manali and Vashisht are short trips but steep and narrow.
- Solang, Atal Tunnel and Sissu are common day trips north of town.
- Permits and road conditions apply for some high-altitude stretches beyond the tunnel.
